Dr Elie Matar is a consultant neurologist and an NHMRC emerging leadership fellow based at the University of Sydney.
At the Public Forum in February 2023, he shared his insights regarding the similarities and differences between Parkinson’s Disease Dementia and Dementia with Lewy Bodies.
His interests include movement disorders, cognitive neurology and sleep medicine. His research work has been concerned with understanding the pathophysiology of disturbing symptoms of Parkinson’s disease and Dementia with Lewy bodies, including REM sleep behaviour disorder, cognitive fluctuations, visual hallucinations and freezing of gait. He aims to develop objective biomarkers of disease progression and translate his findings into therapies to help patients suffering from these neurodegenerative conditions.
