Precision, Platforms, and Progress: The Future of Disease-Modifying Trials in Parkinson’s Disease
As a guest speaker at the Parkinson’s ACT Conference 2025, Professor Simon Lewis presents an overview of the challenges in finding a cure for Parkinson’s and related conditions. He gives an overview of the Australian Parkinson’s Mission (APM), a world-first initiative utilising a platform trial design. These “smart trials” incorporate genomic stratification and blood biomarkers to offer a model for the rapid translation of precision medicine approaches. Finally, he touches on some of the novel efforts he is leading to find better treatments for freezing of gait.
