Frontotemporal Dementia is a real challenge. The memory problems that we see with this dementia, don’t really respond to the treatments that we have for Alzheimer’s Disease.
In actual fact, what we’re often faced with is trying to support patients and make sure that they don’t get into too much trouble. And this really relates to patients with behavioural variants of Frontotemporal Dementia where there may be behaviours where their disinhibited, aggressive or agitated behaviours. And that’s when we start reaching for other medications to try and calm patients and make sure they can stay at home with their families and loved ones.
