Chinatown Public Forum November 2025: Blood pressure, Bowels and Bladder problems in Parkinson’s
This presentation was given to the Sydney Chinatown support group in English, Mandarin and Cantonese. Hopefully you will find it helpful. Watch Prof Simon Lewis at the trilingual (English, Mandarin and Cantonese) Chinatown Support Group in Sydney. This presentation covers the common non-motor challenges in Parkinson’s disease and related conditions, which are common and can significantly affect quality of life. Low blood pressure, or orthostatic hypotension leads to dizziness, light-headedness or even fainting when standing up. Constipation is common with infrequent or hard stools, bloating, abdominal discomfort, and straining. Bladder issues often manifest as urgency, frequency, nocturia (nighttime urination) and occasional incontinence. Importantly, patients need to be able to recognise these problems and work with their specialist to identify treatment strategies.
