It’s very confronting when you get a diagnosis of a brain disease, especially an incurable degenerative disease of the brain.

Your first thoughts are “No, it can’t be me”, the second thoughts are “What does this really mean? What does it mean to me? What does it mean to my family and loved ones?”

Some people of course will still be working, and the question comes up “What does this mean for my work?” And the answer is “Well, these disease processes are usually slow and they’re progressive”, and what that means is that “Yes, over time things are going to get worse” but “No, you probably don’t need to stop working tomorrow.”

The fact of the matter is that many patients who get these diseases are approaching a time in their life when they might want to step away from work. And I have no doubt that investing in your own health and balancing your work life balance, such that you’re not being put under pressure from doing too much work, too many hours, too many things, is probably a good idea – across all of these diseases that you’ll find on the website.
